چکیده

Rates of convergence of the distribution of the extreme order statistic to its limit distribution are given in the uniform metric and the total variation metric. A second{order regular variation condition is imposed by supposing a von Mises type condition which allows a uniied treatment. Rates are constructed from the parameters of the second{order regular variation condition. Some connections with Poisson processes are discussed.

Second Order Regular Variation , Convolution and the Central Limit Theorem 3

Second order regular variation is a reenement of the concept of regular variation which is useful for studying rates of convergence in extreme value theory and asymptotic normality of tail estimators. For a distribution tail 1 ? F which possesses second order regular variation, we discuss how this property is inherited by 1 ? F 2 and 1 ? F 2. We also discuss the relationship of central limit be...

Estimation of parameters in heavy - tailed distribution when its second order tail parameter is known ∗ †

Estimating parameters in heavy-tailed distribution plays a central role in extreme value theory. It is well known that classical estimators based on the first order asymptotics such as the Hill, rank-based and QQ-estimators are seriously biased under finer second order regular variation framework. To reduce the bias, many authors proposed the so-called second order reduced bias estimators for b...

An Alternative Characterization of Hidden Regular Variation in Joint Tail Modeling

In modeling the joint upper tail of a multivariate distribution, a fundamental deficiency of classical extreme value theory is the inability to distinguish between asymptotic independence and exact independence. In this work, we examine multivariate threshold modeling based on the framework of regular variation on cones. Tail dependence is described by an angular measure, which in some cases is...

On Approximate Stationary Radial Solutions for a Class of Boundary Value Problems Arising in Epitaxial Growth Theory

In this paper, we consider a non-self-adjoint, singular, nonlinear fourth order boundary value problem which arises in the theory of epitaxial growth. It is possible to reduce the fourth order equation to a singular boundary value problem of second order given by w''-1/r w'=w^2/(2r^2 )+1/2 λ r^2. The problem depends on the parameter λ and admits multiple solutions. Therefore, it is difficult to...

An ‎E‎ffective Numerical Technique for Solving Second Order Linear Two-Point Boundary Value Problems with Deviating Argument

Based on reproducing kernel theory, an effective numerical technique is proposed for solving second order linear two-point boundary value problems with deviating argument. In this method, reproducing kernels with Chebyshev polynomial form are used (C-RKM). The convergence and an error estimation of the method are discussed. The efficiency and the accuracy of the method is demonstrated on some n...
